A day long field visit to Leper Colony, Bahrar, Lal Bazar Srinagar

Centre for Women’s Studies and Research, University of Kashmir carried out a day long field visit to Leper Colony, Bahrar, Lal Bazar Srinagar on Thursday 9th of December, 2021, as part of its extended community based outreach programme campaign. The event was led by the Director of the Centre, Prof. Dr. Tabasum Firdous, also attended by faculty members and students from the two incumbent batches and a few non-teaching staff as well. The intervention was very comprehensive and diverse, however the highlights of the day were identification of a group of young females from the area for micro-financing and skill based developmental activities, and identification/assessment of other general requirements of the people like, medication and other basic requirements during winters in particular. Most importantly the Centre pledged to act as a mediator between the needs/demands of the people and the stakeholders that are most likely entitled to assist them. Other than that all the students had a great experience of observing things first hand, a momentary detour from the routine theoretical paradigm into a more practical domain.
